Cane toad, iguana & nuisance wildlife control in Jupiter

Between the Loxahatchee River, the Intracoastal and the wide-open lots of Jupiter Farms, Jupiter has more wildlife than almost anywhere in Palm Beach County. Toad Shield keeps your pets and family safe from cane toads, iguanas and other nuisance wildlife.

Jupiter sits where the Loxahatchee River — Florida’s first federally designated Wild and Scenic River — meets the Intracoastal Waterway and the Jupiter Inlet. Add Riverbend Park, the Loxahatchee Slough, and Jonathan Dickinson State Park just to the north, and you get a town wrapped in natural habitat.

That shows up in the calls we get. Waterfront homes along the river, the Intracoastal, and communities like Admirals Cove deal with iguanas on seawalls and docks. Abacoa’s lakes and the golf communities produce heavy cane toad pressure each summer. And on the large, wooded lots of Jupiter Farms, raccoons, armadillos, and snakes are simply part of life.

Where we see the most activity in Jupiter

  • Jupiter Farms

Large rural lots with pine flatwoods, horses, feed rooms, and brush — lots of raccoon, armadillo, and snake activity. Rattlesnakes live here too, so watch where pets roam.

  • Abacoa

Lake-lined neighborhoods where cane toads breed every rainy season and walk onto patios and courtyards at night.

  • Admirals Cove & the riverfront

Seawall and dock properties along the Loxahatchee and the Intracoastal with recurring iguana activity.

  • Golf communities — Jupiter Country Club, The Bear’s Club, Jonathan’s Landing

Lake and preserve edges that move toads, ducks, and other wildlife into back yards.

Cane toad removal in Jupiter

Abacoa, the golf communities, and the newer subdivisions west of I-95 are built around lakes and swales that cane toads use to breed. We sweep yards at night, remove active toads, and install pet-safe barrier along fences and screen enclosures so lakeside yards stay safe for dogs.

Invasive & nuisance wildlife in Jupiter

Jupiter’s mix of river, preserve, and acreage means a lot of wildlife sharing space with people. In Jupiter Farms, raccoons and opossums raid feed rooms and garbage, armadillos dig up pasture and lawns, and coyotes travel the edges of the flatwoods. In Abacoa and the golf communities, Muscovy ducks and Egyptian geese settle around the lakes, and Cuban treefrogs pack into lanais and pool screens. Nonvenomous snakes like black racers and rat snakes are common everywhere. What we can remove depends on the species, the property, and FWC rules — we’ll lay out the options.

Iguana control in Jupiter

Iguanas thin out somewhat as you head north, but they’re well established along the Intracoastal and the Loxahatchee River in Jupiter. They burrow behind seawalls and strip landscaping, and we trap and remove them before a few become dozens.

Jupiter tip

On acreage, protect the house first

On larger Jupiter Farms properties, the biggest wins are close to the house: keep a cleared, mowed buffer around it, store feed in sealed bins so rodents (and the snakes that follow them) stay away, and keep woodpiles and brush well away from doors and kennels.

Jupiter questions we hear

Do you cover Jupiter Farms and unincorporated Jupiter?
Yes. We serve the Town of Jupiter, Jupiter Farms, and the surrounding unincorporated areas, plus nearby Tequesta and Juno Beach.
What venomous snakes are found in Jupiter?
The eastern diamondback rattlesnake, the dusky pygmy rattlesnake, the eastern coral snake, and — near wetlands — the cottonmouth all live in and around Jupiter. If you see one, or any snake you can’t identify, keep your distance, bring kids and pets inside, and don’t try to move it yourself. We remove nonvenomous snakes and other nuisance wildlife, and help cut back the brush, woodpiles, and rodent activity that attract snakes to begin with.
