Cane toad, iguana & nuisance wildlife control in Parkland
Parkland’s big lots, preserves and lakes are what make it special — and why cane toads and nuisance wildlife are part of everyday life here. Toad Shield protects Parkland pets and families.
Parkland was designed to stay green: low density, large estate lots, nature preserves, and parks, with the Hillsboro Canal on the Palm Beach County line and the southern end of the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge just to the northwest. Newer communities like Heron Bay, Parkland Golf & Country Club, MiraLago, Watercrest, and Parkland Bay are built around lakes.
For families with dogs, that combination brings cane toads up from the lakes every rainy season and armadillos, raccoons, snakes, and other wildlife in from the preserves and conservation land. It’s one of the places where we most often recommend a full protected zone around the house and pool rather than spot fixes.
Where we see the most activity in Parkland
Heron Bay & Parkland Golf & Country Club
Golf lakes and preserve buffers with heavy toad activity.
MiraLago, Watercrest & Parkland Bay
Newer lake communities on the western side, close to conservation land.
Pine Tree Estates & other estate lots
Big wooded and pasture lots with more armadillos, raccoons, and snakes — venomous species included, so keep pets close.
Along the Hillsboro Canal & Loxahatchee Road
Canal-edge and refuge-edge properties where wildlife moves in from natural areas.
Cane toad removal in Parkland
Parkland’s lakes and big irrigated lawns support huge cane toad numbers in summer. On larger lots it’s rarely practical to barrier the whole property, so we build a protected zone around the house, pool, and the areas your dogs use, and back it up with nighttime sweeps.

Parkland’s estate lots, lakes, and conservation edges support a wider range of wildlife than eastern Broward. Armadillos dig up big lawns, raccoons and opossums move into garages and under decks, and coyotes are sometimes seen along the preserves and the Loxahatchee Road corridor. Muscovy ducks and Egyptian geese settle around community lakes in Heron Bay and Parkland Bay, and Cuban treefrogs fill pool enclosures. Nonvenomous snakes like black racers, rat snakes, and water snakes are common too. Removal depends on the species, the property, and FWC rules — we’ll tell you what’s possible.

Iguanas are present along the Hillsboro Canal and community lakes, where they burrow into banks and eat landscaping. We trap and remove them and help keep lake banks and pool decks intact.

Rethink your outdoor lighting
Bright white landscape and pool lights draw insects, and insects draw cane toads straight to your patio. Switching to warm-colored or motion-activated fixtures noticeably cuts how many toads gather near the house at night.
Parkland questions we hear
- Can you protect a large Parkland lot?
- Yes. For bigger properties we design a protected zone around the house, pool, and pet areas rather than trying to fence the entire acreage, and pair it with seasonal sweeps. You get a dependable safe area for your pets without fencing in your whole lot.
- Are there venomous snakes in Parkland?
- Yes, though they’re a minority of the snakes out there. Pygmy rattlesnakes, eastern coral snakes, and cottonmouths all occur in and around Parkland, mostly near preserves, canals, and conservation land. If you spot a snake you can’t identify, keep kids and pets close and give it plenty of room. We take care of nonvenomous snakes and other nuisance wildlife, and help make your yard less appealing to snakes by clearing cover and cutting down rodent activity.
